Introduction
As a Four year Security Guard in the UAE Here is my View.
Many people dream of coming to Dubai especially from my home country Uganda to seek for better life, good salary, better infrastructure like clean roads and tall buildings, better health care system and so on. Others are looking for a fresh start to life while many are simply drawn by the lifestyle. I was once that person.
But is Dubai actually a good place to live and work? The honest answer is ..it depends on what you are looking for and here is a breakdown to help you decide.

The Reality of Work Demands
Working as a security guard in Dubai is not easy.
Most of us work 12-hour shifts, sometimes standing the whole day or night. You deal with heat, especially during summer, and strict rules at work. There is pressure to always be alert, respectful, and professional. The salary is often low compared to the cost of living.
Most companies cover accommodation, transport and medical insurance.
Because of this huge cost of living, many people who come here expecting comfort, are caught up in life of discipline and survival.
On the other side, a little upskill of CCTV operation and having a driving license can help someone elevate to higher position and help to increase chances for better working conditions.
This same applies to all other jobs that fall in the semi skilled and unskilled categories.
The Cost of Living
Dubai looks like a rich city, and in many ways it is. But for low-income workers, life is simple and sometimes difficult.
Many people live in shared accommodation, with several others in one room. You learn to adjust quickly because privacy becomes something you cannot always afford. Daily expenses like food and transport must be managed carefully. Saving money is possible, but only if you are very disciplined and avoid unnecessary spending.
For those with families and children, taking them to International schools is so expensive. Eating out, leisure activities and a certain lifestyle standard all add up quickly. The key is to negotiate a salary package and genuinely cover your living costs.
The Good Side of Dubai
At the same time, Dubai has its advantages. It is a safe place where you can move around freely even at night. The environment is clean and organized, and things generally work as expected.
You also meet people from different parts of the world, which can open your mind and change your perspective. If you stay focused, you can slowly improve your situation and learn new skills.
The Challenges Many Don't Talk About
However, there are challenges that many people do not talk about before you come. Some agents or friends only share the positive side. They do not tell you how demanding the work can be or how lonely life might feel at times. Being far from home is not easy, and there are moments when you begin to question your decisions.
The truth is that not everyone who comes here succeeds
Final Thoughts About Coming to Dubai
Whether you should come to Dubai or no, the answer depends on how prepared you are. If you come expecting quick money and an easy life, you may be disappointed.
But if you come ready to work hard, sacrifice and grow, then Dubai can be a place that helps you build a better future.
From my experience, the most important thing is to come with the right mindset. You need patience, discipline, and a plan. It is also important to think beyond your current job. Learning new skills can make a big difference in your future.
Dubai is not heaven, but it is not a bad place either. It is a place of opportunity mixed with struggle. What you become here depends on how you use the opportunity in front of you.
In the end, survival is not enough. Growth is what truly matters.
